List of Sports

Posted by: admin  /  Category: sports

There are countless sports out there and they are played almost every different way. Every country, depending on a lot of factors, counts its own famous list of sports. In America, for example, soccer, which is the most famous sport in the world, is not on the top spot. It ranks only third among America’s favorite list of sports. Different cultures play favorites on the top five most popular sports. In this article, we decided to focus on America, the most influential country in the world.

1. Baseball - This is the oldest and definitely the most popular sport in America. It has been gaining popularity even before the dawn of the 20th century. Although it has conceded to football being the most watched sport in the country, it remains to deserve the top spot for sentimental and historical values. Aside from that, baseball games happen more often than football. In fact, baseball teams play almost every day between April and October. Football only plays 16 games on a regular season.

2. Football - This is definitely the most watched sport in America garnering the huge slice of the viewer’s pie anytime a season is on. Not only that. Spectators clamor for anything and everything about football even when it is off-season.

3. Basketball - This sport, which has produced really big names like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Grant Hill, Dennis Rodman, and Shaquille O’Neal among so many others, is definitely something to watch on this list of sports. It has a very strong fan base that you can be sure it would not be left out every time a ‘famous’ list of sports is made.

4. Ice Hockey - Since its expansion, ice hockey garnered a lot of excited screams. That’s when America, especially the Southern regions, found a special heart for it. They never looked back ever since.

5. Car Racing - Rounding up this ‘famous’ list of sports in America is auto racing, which has grown to collect a nationwide following from merely being a regular Southern sport. Guys and some gals love cars and that’s where the popularity of the sport was probably rooted from. It was only previously enjoyed by a provincial following but when the rest of America started paying attention, the clamor was unbelievable. Car racing is now loved by people from all over the country and from all walks of life at that as well. People loved the expansion and the fact the huge American corporations are joining the sponsorships to support the sport.

Can You Work as a Sports Instructor - One of the More Prestigious Sports Jobs Around?

Posted by: admin  /  Category: Uncategorized, sports jobs

We all want to be respected in whatever occupation we choose to practice, and people who choose sports jobs are no exception. Well, if you seem to have mastered the ins and outs of a certain sport (or maybe a lot of sports), then you just might be qualified to become a sports instructor.

Why become a sports instructor?

People who opt to teach sports-related classes enjoy a certain amount of prestige and respect that other sports jobs may not command. This is because even people who become professional athletes turn to sports instructors at times when they want to fine-tune certain skills. For example, a tennis pro may seek a sports instructor to help her improve her backhand swing, or score killer aces with her serve. A golf pro might ask a sports instructor to identify problem areas in his game, such as awkward putting habits that just kill the athlete’s chances at a tourney win.

If you want to become a sports instructor, the first requirement is that you love the sport (or sports) you have chosen to devote your career teaching about. If it is tennis that you love, then be a tennis instructor. If golf makes you high, then teach golf. If you dislike the sport you want to practice in, then that is counter-productive, don’t you think?

The second requirement is that you should have adequate training from a respected institution. The apple does not fall far from the tree, as the proverb goes, so if you are recognized as a sports instructor by a respected training institution, the odds are greater that you will get the same level of respect when you start applying for positions as sports jobs instructor.

Types of Positions Available

A good sports instructor can easily find work at such sports jobs all around the US, if you look hard enough.

1.You could opt to teach in schools. All schools (from the elementary to university levels) require sports teachers because all schools have some sort of physical education program established. To become a schoolteacher, you will have to like children and youngsters as a rule. And you have to enjoy imparting your knowledge to these young people, who may become future sports athletes in the future with the right training.

2.A unique type of schoolteacher is one who introduces new sports to the children. For example, one website advertises a position for a sports instructor who will teach Middle Schools about Street Surfing, a new form of skateboarding. If you have an adventurous streak, this might be for you.

3.You could also work in gyms and community centers. Gyms are always a good idea because more and more people are shifting to a fitness-oriented lifestyle, thus fostering demand for sports instructors. Community centers may not show the same demand but are also good places to inquire into.

4.You might seek employment at private country clubs. This is where many perks and benefits can be gained, because the clientele have the money to spend for your compensation.

5.Act as private consultant for professional athletes – This is also where sports jobs like teaching sports skills are well compensated though they are harder to get into.

So if you want to try getting a job as a sports instructor, these are just some of your options. Keep your eyes open and you might land the best job you ever had soon.

Why I Must Love Sports

Posted by: admin  /  Category: sports

I must love sports because I’m a guy. It’s the law. I can’t think of a better way to spend a beautiful sunny day indoors than watching grown men smack each other around, hitting, chasing, throwing some sort of ball, and knocking the living daylights out of each other. The best part is they get to make gigantic sums of money doing it.

And, throw in a few steroid and marital scandals and you’ve got the makings for a drama that mere mortals can not comprehend, as we drool our lives away on some comfortable scuzzy couch. Another beer, please.

The other good news is that there are more sporting events on TV than ever before. We could’ve never dreamed of so many sports channels and unending “biggest games of the year.” Outside of being online, it’s the best time-waster ever invented, not to mention that you can easily watch your favorite teams 24/7 right from your very own computer or iPhone. Oh yeah!

I love how watching sports makes me feel. I’m the best Monday morning quarterback you’ve ever seen. And, I feel like I’ve gotten my daily exercise in just by being a compulsive sports viewer. It makes my blood boil. It lets me know I’m alive! It grants me membership into the biggest, baddest fraternity of ‘em all: The Guy Fraternity.

Now, I’m very partial to college football, though the pro version is certainly a close second. And, why not follow basketball and baseball just to pass the time until next football season? Plus, it provides endless topics for discussion when there might be none at all.

And, sports is the greatest excuse ever invented for drinking. It’s makes getting drunk on your ass an okay, maybe even an expected thing to do. For after all, you were watching sports gosh darnit, and it’s almost a right of passage drinking to the point of not being able to even remember the game. But, you can rest assured knowing you most likely had one helluva great time. Now honestly, I don’t drink anymore. I decided I needed to live long enough to enjoy even more sports throughout my life, so why shorten it any more than I already have? Oh, and then there’s the spouse issue: I confess that she was well worth putting the bottle down for also, not to mention my very impressionable young-adult son.

Long story short: old habits die hard, and old dogs can’t learn new tricks, so I’m good with my male role and destiny: I must watch sports. And, as long as they have ‘em, I’m watchin’ ‘em, and loving every minute of it!
